I have been working in the art market since 1989 and principally sell old master drawings from 1500 to circa 1900. In the last few years I have also been in dealing in contemporary pictures, which are mainly sold to clients in Yorkshire, where I live, and I have held a number of exhibitions in the county. In July I participate in Master Drawings London and in January I participate in Master Drawings New York. I also advise clients on a number of areas in the market including: bidding at auction, buying from dealers, valuations for IRS, valuations for Canadian Cultural Heritage, valuations for Insurance and valuations for other Tax purposes. I also work as a consultant to Bonhams auctioneers for their Old Master Drawings. In April 2010 I launched a new internet business, called www.iartbroker.com

My interest in the arts started as a student at Eton College, where I studied art history, and had an extensive practical experience as a student in sculpture. As a student at St. Andrews University in Scotland I studied History of Art. After graduation I joined Sotheby's as a graduate trainee and realised that this was the profession I wanted to work in, and spent a few years working in various departments from Impressionist pictures to jewelry. Then I had a short spell at the British Museum, assisting a keeper in the Prints & Drawings Department, it was at this point that I seriously considered specialising in the field of old master drawings. I then joined Phillips, Son & Neale and worked there for four years. At this point I went to study drawing at Heatherly’s School of Art, where I learnt just how difficult it is to be a professional artist! My career then took me to Christie's Old Master Drawings Department, where I worked till 1998, and then started my own business. In 2000, with a number of colleagues, I launched Master Drawings in London, and in 2007 launched Master Drawings New York. Both these events require extensive assistance from other dealers and I have found both events enormously helpful in meeting new clients and colleagues.
