Müller was a student of Baron Gros and Léon Cogniet. He exhibited regularly at the Salon and was bestowed with numerous honours. He worked on four important paintings for the ceilings in the Musée du Louvre, representing the periods of art in France under Saint Louis, Francois Premier, Louis XIV and under Napoleon 1. Müller also painted eight allegories in the same scheme.
